Walkers in difficulty were assisted near Coumshingaun in County Waterford yesterday (Monday).

South Eastern Mountain Rescue received a call around 3pm from An Garda Siochana to assist the group after heavy mist had descended and they became unsure of the way back to the car park at Kilclooney.

After assembling, team members assisted the walkers off the hill and back to safety with the operation complete by 5.30pm.

A spokesperson for SEMRA said the incident "shows how unpredictable our mountain weather can be even in the height of summer".

Meanwhile, a status yellow rain warning is in effect for eighteen counties this morning - including Waterford.

Met Éireann is warning of a risk of localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions until early tomorrow morning.
