An injured walker was airlifted from the Comeragh Mountains in County Waterford yesterday afternoon.
The man had fallen near Coumshingaun, had hit his head but was alert and felt able to continue walking.
South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association and Gardai responded. The man was also assisted by a nearby walking group.
However, the man's condition deteriorated as he was being assessed by the SEMRA team doctor and the Waterford based Coast Guard helicopter was requested.
Rescue 117 winched the man on board and brought him to Waterford Airport for onward transfer to hospital.
It was a busy evening for Rescue 117.
They also carried out a medical transfer of a patient from Cork to Galway last night.
