Uncertainty surrounds the future of Waterford's Homebase store.

The High Court today appointed provisional liquidators to the company behind the Homebase chain of DIY stores in Ireland.

The Court heard the chain has suffered a collapse in business in the UK and Ireland.

Damien Murran and Enda Lowry, from Teneo Financial Advisory, were appointed by the Court to HHGL (ROI) Limited trading as Homebase.

In a statement, the Joint Provisional Liquidators said: "At this time, the Homebase stores continue to trade in Provisional Liquidation whilst the Joint Provisional Liquidators consider options for the business".

Currently, it is understood that the move has not impacted the 178 staff working in the eight outlets across Ireland.

In the UK, Homebase called in administrators who immediately sold up to 70 stores there, as well as the brand and its intellectual property to The Range owner CDS.
