UHW asks nurses to perform additional duties as industrial action continues

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation have publicly stated their support for Unite members embroiled in industrial action in University Hospital Waterford.

As previously reported by WLR, delays to services for in-patients have been experienced since the work-to-rule began on May 27th.

Subsequently, nurses employed in University Hospital Waterford have been asked to perform non-nursing duties by nursing management.

The INMO have instructed their members not to take on any such additional duties, un-related to their nursing role.

"I write to you on behalf of our member across University Hospital Waterford regarding the most recent request by nursing management for INMO members to perform non-nursing duties while a group of workers are not completing the said duties while partaking in industrial action."

"It is always this Union's position that our members would not undermine any worker' legitimate industrial action and we will be advising our members not to co-oeprate in taking on any additional roles or responsibilities of workers involved in such industrial action."
