Some WIT students may have to stay in the Travelodge in Waterford due to the shortage of accommodation in the city.
WITSU set up the initiative a number of years ago with the budget hotel, which offers a student rate of up to €49 per night.
The Irish Times reports that the college's student union (WITSU) expects many students will have to avail of the deal this year.
“It’s a safe place for students to stay, to have their own room for the night on a low-cost basis until they can get themselves sorted, in a city where public transport options are limited," the WITSU President Rachel McCartney told the Irish Times.
The students union president told the publication there is little availability left in campus accommodation while some private housing rented to students in past is no longer available since the pandemic.
Students attending Waterford Institute of Technology Students in shared housing can expect to pay between €400 and €700 per month this year according to the college's students union.
