National Traveller Pride Week is being celebrated locally. Running until Sunday, Traveller traditions and culture will be showcased with several events.
Minceiri Waterford was set up in the early two-thousands, to provide support services to the Travelling community in Waterford.
Speaking to WLR News, Mary Connor's from Minceiri Waterford spoke of the event.
"Traveller Pride is an annual initiative that happens over two weeks every year. last week we had the Traveller Pride Awards nationally. But as well as that, locally the different traveller organisations and many organisations that work with travellers host their local events.
"We'll be having an event in the Butler Centre in John's Park today. We are the Traveller-specific community development organisation for Waterford and the county. We're very proud of the work that we do. We're a Traveller-led organisation.
"We're very much by Travellers with allies for Travellers. And what we do is, as well as celebrating the culture, as well as being a space where Travellers can come together, they can have pride in the culture that they share."
