Officials in the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport have said that Waterford Airport is in crisis and its future continuation in jeopardy.
The Irish Times reports that an internal submission to Minister for Transport Shane Ross in December noted that a range of issues need to be considered before Government can decide on future policy for Waterford Airport.
It advised approval for three hundred and seventy five thousand euro to safeguard the Coast Guard search-and-rescue for the first six months of this year, while also allowing time for a full evaluation of the future of the airport.
The note also recommended that consultants be engaged to undertake a review of the options for the Airport, which last carried commercial passengers in June 2016.
Aer Southeast had posted on it's Facebook page on the 23rd of February that they would begin flights this year.
However the CEO of Waterford Council Michael Walsh recently said that there has been no change to the situation at the airport and work to secure a new carrier is ongoing.
