Tina Satchwell investigation: man arrested as Gardaí reiterate appeal for information

A man has been arrested as investigations continue into the murder of Tina Satchwell.

Gardaí investigating her disappearance have found skeletal remains at the home where she lived in Youghal.

The remains have not been identified but Gardaí are satisfied they are human remains.

An investigation team based at Midleton Garda Station continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the murder and held a media briefing this afternoon.

Superintendent Adrian Gamble said: "The family of Tina Satchwell continue to be updated on the progress of this investigation by an appointed family liaison officer and my thoughts and the thoughts of the investigation team continue to be with them at this difficult time."

He added: "Again, I appeal to any person who may have information on the murder of Tina Satchwell, no matter how insignificant you may think that information is, to contact the investigation team at Midleton Garda Station on (021) 462 1550, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666111 or any Garda Station."

Tina was reported as missing from her home on Grattan Street, Youghal, Co. Cork in March, 2017.

A Garda technical examination at that residence is continuing and a second search at a location between Youghal and Killeagh, Co. Cork has been completed.

Yesterday evening, the Garda Technical Bureau team discovered what are believed to be human remains.

The Coroner was notified. The Assistant State Pathologist, Dr. Bolster has attended the scene this morning.

The remains have been removed to Cork University Hospital where they will be subject to further examination including DNA analysis.

Earlier today, a male in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder, and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in Co. Cork.
