Met Eireann has issued a thunder warning for Munster.
The yellow alert will be in place from 3pm this afternoon until midnight tonight.
The forecaster says that due to the localised nature of thunderstorm activity some areas will escape completely but areas impacted will see torrential downpours with possible hail.
Lightning storms knocked out power to around 1,700 homes and businesses in Waterford and South Kilkenny.
ESB Networks have restored supply to all affected.
