There's a risk of lightning strikes today, with a yellow warning for thunderstorms for five counties. Waterford, Cork, Carlow, Kilkenny, and Tipperary will be affected from 2 o'clock this afternoon.
Hail will fall with torrential downpours in parts until 8 pm. Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather says things will take a turn for the worse as the day goes on:
"We have a lot of sunny spells early today and through this afternoon, but unfortunately later this afternoon. Showers will bubble up, and they will turn heavy with a risk of thunderstorms and severe downpours that will lead to some local flash flooding".
