Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien says the 'potential is massive' after he visits North Quays

The Minister for Housing and Local Government says the potential for Waterford's North Quays is huge.

Darragh O'Brien visited the site this afternoon, a month after he announced €110m in state funding for the redevelopment of the 8-hectare site.

He says he knows what the North Quays means to Waterford, to Kilkenny and the entire region.

"The potential here is massive for jobs, for further inward investment, private investment, for housing and new commercial development I think it will be transformational.

"I'm really delighted to be down here specifically on the RDF piece and also I'll be meeting the council afterwards in relation to our housing targets for next year.

"In Waterford and Kilkenny we're doing well on driving down homelessness but I want to see increased delivery on housing both public and private."

Councillors will vote tomorrow on the land disposal, which could see the site sold to Falcon Real Estate for €9m.
