A young male has been taken to University Hospital Waterford after a fall in Newtown Cove this afternoon.
Tramore RNLI was alerted shortly after 3pm and was on scene within 8 minutes.
The young male, who had a suspected back injury, was recovered by swimmers and was assessed by an A&E doctor who was at the scene.
Lifeboat and coastguard crews placed the casualty on a spinal stretcher and brought him up the steps to a waiting ambulance.
The extent of his injuries are not yet known.
The Lifeboat was returning to base when it was alerted to a family stranded on the back strand. However, the family had made their way from a sand bank to the beach.
