Suirway's buses will be back on the road tomorrow (Tuesday October 27th) after the longest break in the bus company's history.

The company has been going since 1899 and the past seven months have been among the most challenging, according to Director Brian Lynch.

Before the pandemic, commuter services were running to Dunmore East, Passage East, Kilmeaden and Portlaw. The company also carried children to schools in the city.

After seven months without services, Brian says he is delighted to get the services to those locations back up and running:

"I can honestly say since my great uncle founded Suirway in 1899 we've never been off the road for that length of time, we've been serving our community for a long long time."

Under Level 5 restrictions, public transport is running at 25% capacity to allow those providing essential services to get to work, and Brian is appealing to those who do not need to travel not to.

"A 50 seater coach will only have a capacity of 12 seats...We are not supposed to carry people outside their 5km zone. Essentially our services are for a very specific purpose."

Brian says they hope that the capacity restriction will increase to 50%  after December 1st.
