The worst of Storm Lorenzo is expected to hit Waterford between 7pm this evening and 6am tomorrow morning.
Waterford City and County Council's Severe Weather Co-ordination Team met this morning to discuss the status yellow wind warning.
They're urging people to avoid unnecessary journeys and to be aware of the potential for fallen trees and debris on roads throughout today and tomorrow.
They're asking householders to secure objects such as bins, trampolines and garden furniture.
Tramore Promenade is closed until 9am tomorrow and the public is being warned to stay away from waterways.

Waterford Council phone lines will be manned throughout the storm. If you come across fallen trees or debris, you're being asked to call 0761 102 020.
The Council says staff will be fully operational at first light tomorrow and they'll endeavor to deal with any storm-related damage as quickly as possible.
