A status orange rainfall warning for Waterford will come into effect from 10pm this evening.
The warning has been issued for Cork, Kerry, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow, with torrential downpours likely over the next 36 hours or so.
An initial yellow warning had been issued but this has since been upgraded.
The Met Éireann warning comes into effect from 10pm and will last until midnight on Thursday.
There will be 'heavy and persistent' showers in the south and southwest of the country, with localised flooding and traffic disruption likely.
