Preperations are underway to expand the Spraoi onto the Waterford Greenway this month.
Rehearsals took place yesterday for the Greenway Spraoi on the Kilmacthomas Viaduct.
Director of Spraoi, T.V Honan, told WLR that the Spraoi team recieved a fantastic welcome in Kilmac.
"Bypassers on the Greenway itself and people who came to the park had an unexpected free show. We got an amazing welcome in Kilmac and there was great help from the local community. It was fantastic. Fidget Feet are one of the best international aerial companies and it was just fantastic to see them in the setting of Kilmac, on such a dramatic structure like the viaduct there."
Honan says it will be a very different Spraoi this year compared to those of yesteryear.
"It will be a very different Spraoi this year. Our big ticket events that would attract people in their thousands like the parade and the fireworks aren't there. Indeed, it was lonely last night. We were working on Waterford streets and remembering that normally, we'd have been there with the parade. It's very very different but we do think we'll be able to provide a very good experience and memory of Spraoi. We want to bring life to the city itself and bring life to the Greenway. It will show that the Greenway can be used for other things - along with the wonderful facility it already is for cycling and walking."
When asked if there will be plans to expand the Spraoi festival further into the West in the coming years, Honan joked that it's difficult to know what will happen next week as opposed to what happens in a few years time.
"We have 136 performances to get out during the month of August this year. It's a fantastic achievement - not alone for Spraoi, but the city and county of Waterford. We'll concentrate on that for now - it's plenty to be thinking about!".
