Sinn Fein councillors temporarily walked out of a Waterford Council meeting this week following a disagreement on the agenda.

The five councillors left the room when those present opted to push the management report to the bottom of the list, something that Sinn Fein believed was rushed and not unanimously agreed upon.

A back-and-forth followed between Cllr. Conor McGuinness and Mayor of Waterford City & County, Cllr. John O'Leary (Fianna Fail) toward the end of the meeting.

"Nothing personal in this all but I don't think that your chairing of this meeting today certainly met my expectations. I'm disappointed", said Cllr. McGuinness before Cllr. O'Leary repeated 'in your opinion, in your opinion'.

Newly-elected Deputy Mayor of Waterford, Cllr. Tom Cronin disputed Sinn Fein's claims and said that Cllr. O'Leary chaired the meeting excellently as he wasn't 'led by a dictatorship'.

Fianna Fail Councillor Eamon Quinlan made light of the disagreement - and questioned whether the Council would be willing to make a submission to the Guinness World Book of Records for what he deemed to be the world's shortest political walkout.
