Waterford Sinn Féin TD David Cullinane has confirmed that the party is standing 18 candidates across six Local Electoral Areas in Waterford.
He said it's the highest number of candidates the party has stood in Waterford in modern times and is reflective of the growth, vision and ambition of the party.
Deputy Cullinane said:
“I am delighted to announce that Sinn Féin is standing 18 candidates in Waterford in the upcoming local elections. This demonstrates ambition and a desire to bring about change.
“Our candidates are a mix of youth and experience and part of a growing Sinn Féin team across the island. The political landscape is changing and Sinn Féin is leading that change.
“A strong Sinn Féin team on Waterford City and County council will prioritise housing as the number one issue. We need much more ambitious targets for social and genuinely affordable homes.
“Waterford City and County is in transition and we need to make the University the best it can be, the hospital a world class facility and an Airport providing commercial flights.
“But all of this requires infrastructure and an ambitious council that delivers water services, public transport, a road network and quality broadband.
“We need to brand Waterford City as a carbon neutral city. This will require significant additional investment in the port and in offshore renewable energy.
“I look forward to working with our council candidates to take Waterford City and County to the next level. Sinn Féin wants to lead the next Government. I want to be a senior Minister in that Government.
“Having senior ministerial representation at national level and a strong council at local level provides an opportunity to deliver for Waterford and realise opportunities to grow and develop our county.”
