A Dungarvan butcher's has closed without notice, according to former employees.
The Butcher's Block in Dungarvan Shopping Centre is part of a chain of shops around the country.
Staff have told WLR News today that they were informed when they went into work on Saturday that the store would be permanently closing that day.
They've expressed their shock and frustration at the news.
It's understood there were five people working there.
In an email sent to employees and seen by WLR, management of the company, which is headquartered in Westmeath, said that "due to the severe economic conditions" they have ceased trading.
They said the company is in a "dire financial position" and is therefore unable to pay any entitlements to due to employees.
The email says a liquidator will be able to arrange, with the department of social welfare, for the payment of their statutory entitlements.
The Butcher's Block also has stores in Blackpool and Douglas in Cork, in Portlaoise, in Tallaght, and in Sandymount.
However, it's understood a number of those branches have also closed.
WLR has requested a statement from the company.
