A container ship has safely docked in Belview Port after it ran aground at Cheekpoint earlier today.
The Samskip Express ran aground at Russian Side earlier this afternoon en route to the port.
Emergency services attended the scene but it's not believed there were any injuries to any crew on board.
The Harbour Constable of Cheekpoint, Sean Doherty, says it appears to be a mechanical failure:
"There's scarce ships running aground; it has happened previously, the steering can go and there's not many places for the ship to go except touch the mud. I don't believe there was ever any danger of environmental damage or any physical harm to the people on board the ship. She's safely gone up now and docked. I presume it was a mechanical malfunction of some form."
