South Eastern Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) are returning to base this evening after rescuing a sheepdog that was stuck on a cliff-face in Coumshingaun.
A spokesperson for the voluntary organisation told WLR News that they wouldn't usually respond to an incident like this however, the dog in question was a working dog. They added that this was the 'right thing to do' in the circumstances.
It's understood the dog was helping round up sheep when she fell around 50-metres down the cliff at the back of Coumshingaun lake.
Four members of the SEMRA team were brought up to the top of Coumshingaun by Rescue 117 which was training in the area at the time.
Two other members of the team followed on foot. The helicopter also returned collecting more rope from a 7th member and dropping it to the top.
Two teams abseiled down the cliff and managed to get the dog into a pouch and back to safety.
Both the dog and her owner are now safe and well.
