There are currently 31 rooms available for students to rent in Waterford, according to StudentPad, which is the SETU's new website designed to help with the search for accommodation.

The website promotes digs-style accommodation and caters to students in Waterford, Wexford, and Carlow.

Jacqui O'Connor, SETU’s Head of Accommodation, says it allows you to be specific in how you search for a place.

"There's a number of filters," she explains, "they have a filter called 'Campus' and once they click on that, they'll see the three different campuses - Waterford, Carlow, and Wexford will appear on that.

"They can also search by area; for Waterford, for example, they can choose if they want to live in the city centre or if they want to live on the Cork Road.

"They can also choose what type of accommodation they're looking for; a house, an apartment, or a room."

Under the Rent A Room Scheme, home-owners can earn up to €14,000 a year, tax free, by renting out a spare room in the house that they're living in.

"It won't only benefit the student," Jacqui says, "but it could benefit a home-owner.

"They could be putting their own child through college and it could help with their funding.

"So, everything helps!"
