A Waterford Senator says broadband access is as important as electricity was to a home 60 years ago.
John Cummins says there's an urgent need for greater broadband connectivity across Waterford.
The Fine Gael politician says people working and studying remotely has highlighted the need for the National Broadband Plan.
"The difficulties faced by some workers and students with their broadband speeds and access while working remotely during Covid-19 certainly brings into sharp focus the obvious and urgent need for greater broadband connectivity across rural Waterford.
"That's why the national broadband plan is so important."
Senator Cummins explains what the plan would mean for Waterford
"For Waterford the National Broadband Plan represents a €59 million investment in bringing high speed broadband to 14,809 premises.
"That's farms, homes, schools and businesses right across rural Waterford.
"For me, broadband access is as important today as electricity was to a home 60 years ago."
