Sanofi Waterford have confirmed that an employee has tested positive for Covid-19

A Waterford pharmaceutical company have confirmed that a member of staff has tested positive for Covid 19.

Sanofi has confirmed that it is responding to an instance of the coronavirus in one of its employees and that the individual involved is currently self-isolating at home.

It's understood that the employee picked up the virus through community transmission.

In a statement, the company says it has taken a range of steps to safeguard its employees including implementing a working from home policy since March and promoting social distancing, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and mask-wearing.

The company's statement in full:

'Sanofi is responding to a confirmed case of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in one of its Waterford employees. The individual involved is currently self-isolating at home.

Our primary focus at this time is supporting them to a full recovery while also continuing to protect the health and wellbeing of the remainder of our team.

Sanofi Waterford has taken a range of steps to safeguard its employees during the current global pandemic. These include large-scale working from home since 09 March and promoting social distancing, hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and mask-wearing. We have also changed how we operate our onsite catering to enable social distancing at meal times and switched to greater use of online meetings.
