The HSE had blamed the closure of the ward and the loss of 19 long-stay and rehab beds on the shortage of nursing staff.
Locals had feared that the closure would not be temporary as stated, and protested the move.
Councillor for the Dungarvan area, John Pratt, says recruitment of nurses is ongoing to try and ensure as many beds as possible come back into use, but that it's necessary to keep the pressure on.
He says, "There's still obviously recruiting for nurses ongoing and it's something I'll be inquiring about, just to keep an eye on how many nurses are being recruited."
