Local Link Waterford is offering a collect and deliver service for passengers who require assistance during the crisis.

Drivers employed by the rural bus service are available to go to pharmacies and local shops for the elderly, vulnerable and sick.

James O'Donoghue, Manager of Local Link Waterford, says they're operating a trusted and coordinated support service:

"We're trying to reach out, particularly to the people that we would carry on our usual door-to-door services

"Our drivers have been very good at contacting our regular passengers and asking them if they need anything brought to them rather than them having to get on the bus to get to the shop or the pharmacy.

"In the first instance, contact the driver or the operator because mostly that is who they would contact anyway.

"Failing that ring us here on 0761 10 28 45.

He says two evening services have been suspended to help deliver this support service:

"The vast majority of our services are still running. All regular services are running.

"The only services we have stopped are the moment are an evening service into Ballyduff, the other one was an evening service between Ardmore and Dungarvan.

"There was nobody using it anyway and we find that we need the resources of that service during the day because of the situation of COVID-19.

James says they're continuing to enforce social distancing on buses:

"Obviously, because of the situation, the numbers are low anyway. Even at that, we are still trying to keep passenger numbers down to 3 or 4 to a bus.

"Where we have to do that we then provide a back-up service so that people will not be stuck."
