Planned roads works in Waterford City from next week are going to cause "untold disruption" all over the city and adjoining areas.
That's according to Independent Councillor Joe Kelly who says the planned resurfacing works on Parnell Street and Manor Street should be happening during the night.
They are scheduled to happen between 7am and 7pm weekdays from next Monday (17th Oct).
Councillor Kelly says they are due to continue during peak hours until the October 28th.
"That's in the height of daytime traffic essentially, it's all day.
"I'm saying here that this is going to cause untold disruption all over the city and all adjoining roads - and even neighbourhoods that are nowhere near these roads - because of the overflow of cars.
"I think it's very bad planning and I don't think it's going to serve the people of the city, or indeed visitors, very well at all."
However, the Independent representative says the idea of those works taking place at nighttime was put forward, but he was told that couldn't happen.
"I think there's going to be uproar from the people of Waterford," Councillor Kelly said, "They're going to ask what kind of planning regime have we in the council that allows this kind of thing to happen.
"I'm not happy. As a councillor, I'm not satisfied at all.
"I believe that that work - certainly the Parnell Street part of it - should have been done at nighttime to minimise the disruption to the ordinary people of Waterford and to visitors."
