'Roads in Waterford need to be addressed' - says local representative

Road conditions in County Waterford are not good enough. That's the message from local Councillor Pat Fitzgerald, who says multiple roads are in disrepair.

The issue was raised by Cllr. Fitzgerald at a recent Plenary sitting of Waterford City and County Council.

The Sinn Féin Councillor questioned Director of Services for roads with the Council, Fergus Galvin.

"The northwest of the country has dried up, whereas it used to be the other way around. What extra funding can we get from the government to alleviate this problem?

"The roads in the county are in absolute disrepair. I believe the southeast of the country has been hard done by due to the large amount of rainfall we have had this year."

Director of Services for roads with the Council, Fergus Galvin, said he acknowledges that there is a demand for repairs to be carried out.

"I fully acknowledge that the roads are under pressure eat the moment. We have had almost continuous wet weather for as long as I can remember at this stage.

"Our teams are out there every day of the week. and we will be putting additional resources in place as soon as the weather gets better."
