Yesterday, a 12 year old boy was injured after jumping from cliffs at the Guillamine in Tramore.

He broke bones in his pelvis after hitting the rocks.

The boy's mother has thanked all those involved in his rescue.

He was brought to safety by other swimmers and was assessed and stretchered to an ambulance by an A&E doctor, lifeboat and coastguard crews.

He has since been released from hospital.

Paul Tuohy, Press Officer with Tramore RNLI has appealed to people not to jump from any cliff into the sea.

"It's timely now at the moment to remind people about 'tombstoning' and jumping off cliffs.

"A lot of kids are going out there at the moment and are jumping off cliffs, it's deadly!

"This guy jumped off the third ledge at Guillamine and hit the rocks."

Paul Tuohy says people jumping off cliffs is a regular occurance.

"A couple of our crew members who swim regularly were out there on Wednesday night and said there were quite a lot of people out around the Newtown area, over the top of Newtown Cove and out towards the Metalman - all jumping off cliffs."

"It's crazyness, one slip, one gust of wind can set you on to the rocks and it doesn't bear thinking about."
