Retiring Waterford TDs John Deasy and John Halligan are set to receive pension payments as they retire from politics.

The Irish Independent reports that Fine Gael’s John Deasy will get a once-off lump sum of €126,000 and an annual pension of over €42,000.

He was first elected to Dail Eireann in 2002 and retained his seat in each election since then.

John Halligan will receive a lump sum of €63,000 and an annual pension of €21,000 after stepping down ahead of the general election.

He was first elected in 2011.

In total, retiring TDs are set to share in a pension pot of €22 million.

In 2011 it was reported that former Waterford Minister Martin Cullen was receiving an annual pension of €119,000. The Fianna Fail TD who was first elected to the Dail in 1987 as a Progressive Democrat stepped down in March of 2010.
