There were no properties available to rent in any household category within standard or discretionary HAP limits in Waterford City Centre in October.

That's according to the latest 'Locked Out of the Market' report for the Simon Communities of Ireland which is a snapshot study of 16 locations.

HAP is a form of social housing support provided by local authorities, where they make a monthly rental payment on a tenant’s behalf to their landlord.

There were just thirty three properties available for rent under the 'discretionary' HAP scheme nationwide this October.

Meanwhile, there were just three properties available to rent under the 'standard' rate.

Executive Director of the Simon Communities, Wayne Stanley, says the findings are "stark".
