Protest underway at the Port of Waterford over the importation of foreign grain

Between 30 and 40 farmers from across the region are in attendance over what they feel is an attempt to undercut national barley prices.

Part-time farmer Kevin Murphy is at Bellevue Port and spoke to WLR News in the past hour.

"A shipment of what we believe to be cheap foreign barley came in, 1,500 tonnes of it," he said. "I think there's approximately three or four hundred tonnes left on the boat. We have the shipment stopped being unloaded because we stopped the trucks coming out.

"There's farmers in there at the ship, also the IFA and gardaí to see what the story is."
