A small crowd has gathered outside Waterford Garda Station for a demonstration after a garda shooting earlier this week resulted in the death of a young man.

Protesters in Ballybricken are calling for justice for George Nkencho who died on Wednesday. The crowd, numbering around 20, wore all black and had placards carrying 'Black Lives Matters' slogans.

The shooting happened in a Dublin neighbourhood after members of the force responded to reports of a man with a knife in a local shopping centre.

Bullets were fired by a Garda after the man, George Nkencho (PRON: EN-KEN-CHO), made several threats and an attempt to resolve the situation with non-lethal force failed.

A GSOC investigation has been launched into the incident.

Protesters at today's demonstration told WLR they will be sending photos of their show of solidarity to the Nkencho family.
