It's hoped that a standoff over a mobile home in Ferrybank can be resolved.
It's centred around a compulsory purchase order which was issued to the reputed landowner in November of last year.
The Sheriff took possession of the lands yesterday on behalf of the local authority after the landowner refused entry last month.
However, the man forced his way on to the site and entered the caravan.
The local authority says the property is not a residence and that the man doesn't reside there.
They say that they have engaged with the man at every opportunity over the past year and that it's necessary for the council to take possession of the property now as part of the North Quays development.
Sinn Fein Councillor Jim Griffin wants to see it sorted.
"The council have done all they can, seemingly, to try to come to an arrangement or agreement with this gentlemen.
"That is why the CPO was served way back and then the sheriff's office was contacted when they couldn't take possession of the site.
"That's where it is now, it's most unfortunate, it's unfortunate for the gentleman too so close to Christmas, that he feels like he has to stay there while the sheriff's security guards are there keeping an eye over the property as well."
