Popular family run business in Waterford set to close after 7 years

A very popular Waterford shop is to close over the coming months.

After seven years of business, owners of Finders Keepers on Michael Street will close their doors in the coming months.

With their lease on the property to expire this coming September, business will begin to wind down over the coming weeks and months.

Commenting on this, owner Lisa Connolly said she feels she has 'just disappeared into the ether,' with her energy 'completely zapped.'

Challenges

Reflecting on running a small business in the current market, she said: 'running a business is like running an ultra marathon.'

She added: 'This is I have learned, the finish line I had been waiting to cross just isn't coming, and I'm so drained I can't keep running.'

The challenges of running a small business are particularly challenging in the current consumer market.

Acknowledging this, Lisa said: 'We have done our best to adapt and change to meet all challenges over the years. But honestly, the challenges just keep on coming and I'm tired.'

Finders Keepers will continue to trade as they are, with no plans in place for a sale ahead of doors closing.

However, with the lease on the building expiring in September, trading is not expected to continue past then.

Seven years in Waterford

Looking at seven years of business in Waterford, Lisa said: 'We love the community that we have built through Finders Keepers and are so grateful for each and every connection made. I'm brimming with pride with what we achieved. I do think we made our mark.'

The Finders Keepers story began in 2017 in an old butcher shop in the city, with their unique selling point being in unique gift and homeware items.

Lisa, together with her husband Luke, and her sister Beth built the business from the ground up, going from strength to strength.
