Tributes to Jenni Ledwell

Meanwhile, warm tributes have been paid to Jenni Ledwell from across the local arts sector and beyond.

The Waterford actress, writer and campaigner died unexpectedly on Tuesday night.

Jenni appeared in many theatre productions locally and nationally and was involved with campaigns such as the pursuit for 24/7 cardiac care at UHW as well as Repeal the Eighth Amendment.
Social Democrats Councillor Mary Roche said:  "I'm so shocked and saddened to hear about Jenni Ledwell's unexpected death. Jenni was a tremendous mum, sister, daughter and notably, actor. I've worked with her on and off for decades. She was talented, passionate and compassionate. A dreamer, a doer, a campaigner and a carer. Deepest sympathies to her daughter Sadie whom she adored and her sister Debbie. May Jenni Rest in Peace."
Yvonne Cooney of the South-East Patient Advocacy Group (SEPAG) said in an online statement: "We are heartbroken to say goodbye to a dear friend and cardiac campaigner Jenni Ledwell. I don’t have the words to say how much she meant to us all here at SEPAG."

In an online tribute, County Waterford playwright Martina Collender said: "The Waterford arts community, animal welfare community,  the local activist community and the whole of the city and county are united in grief. Jenni Ledwell was an extraordinary actor, her talent acknowledged throughout the country and even worldwide. She worked with the best of the best throughout the years. I first saw Jenni in 'Eden' in The Theatre Royal and I was captivated by her talent and her spirit. I waited outside after the show to ask for her autograph but was too shy when I saw her. I told Jenni this story years later when I was lucky enough to call her a friend and she laughed. I saw her steal the show in Jim Nolan's 'Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye' and in her last performance of Ger Burke's 'Flood' she was extraordinary."
Waterford Musical Society said: "The sudden passing of Waterford's Jenni Ledwell has left a huge void in the arts in our city and beyond. A talented and inspiring actor who gave it her all every time she graced a stage . She will be sadly missed by the many she inspired to be better, by her daughter Sadie and sister Debbie, her peers, neighbours and many friends. A light has been dimmed but she will shine bright forever in the hearts of so many. May She Rest in Peace."
