Tá Oifigeach Gaeilge Phort Láirge ag obair i gcomhar le grúpaí éagsúla chun réimse leathan imeachtaí a chur le chéile chun an Ghaeilge agus cultúr na Gaeilge a cheiliúradh.
Gael-Igbo – beidh ócáid idir-chultúrtha ar siúl in Ionad Naomh Pádraig i gCathair Phort Láirge ar an Satharn beag seo, 4 Márta ar a 4.00i.n., nuair a bheidh deis ag lucht labhartha na Gaeilge agus Pobal Igbo Chathair Phort Láirge teacht le chéile chun blais dá gcultúr a roinnt. Cuirfear sólaistí ar fáil agus beidh fáilte roimh chách chuig an ócáid speisialta seo. An Cailín Ciúin – tá Oifig na Gaeilge agus Coiste Dhún Garbhán le Gaeilge ag eagrú léiriú speisialta den scannán An Cailín Ciúin sa phictiúrlann i nDún Garbhán ar an Déardaoin, 9 Márta, mar cheiliúradh ar a ainmniúcháin dos na Oscars agus an éacht atá bainte amach ag an scannán Gaeilge seo.

Féile Lá Fhéile Pádraig – beidh ócáid Open Mic “The Spoken Word/An Focal Labhartha” ar siúl ar Shráid na mBioránach ar an Satharn, 18 Márta óna 1.00-4.00i.n.. Beidh léamh filíochta agus próis i nGaeilge agus i mBéarla ó réimse daoine éagsúla. Mar sin, bígí i lár an aonaigh linn ag an ócáid seo, atá á n-eagrú mar chuid d’Fhéile Lá ‘le Pádraig Phort Láirge.
SEIRBHÍSÍ LEABHARLAINNE PHORT LÁIRGE
Beidh roinnt imeachtaí Gaeilge agus dátheangacha á n-eagrú ag an bhfoireann os na leabharlanna éagsúla sa chathair agus sa chontae sa choicís amach romhainn agus iad ar fad saor in aisce.
Beidh an seanchaí Neil de Búrca i láthair i Leabharlanna Thrá Mhór agus Ard Chaoin ar an Máirt, 21 Márta agus é i mbun scéalaíochta do pháistí os na scoileanna áitiúla. Tá stíl faoi leith ag Neil agus cuirfidh sé na páistí faoi dhraíocht lena scéalta agus seanachas.
Chomh maith leis sin, beidh Bingó as Gaeilge á n-eagrú i Leabharlann Ard Chaoin agus Phort Lách agus leanfar ar aghaidh leis an gCiorcal Comhrá seachtainiúil i Leabharlann an Trá Móire gach oíche Dhéardaoin. Is féidir na sonraí a fháil ó do Leabharlann áitiúil.
Tá stoc mór de leabhair Ghaeilge ag Leabharlanna Phort Láirge agus beidh na leabhair seo ar thaispeáint sna leabharlanna éagsúla le linn Seachtain na Gaeilge agus iachall faoi leith á cur ar dhaoine, idir óg agus aosta, leabhair Ghaeilge a léamh. Seachtain na Gaeilge is being celebrated in Waterford again this year, with many events taking place throughout City and County. The Irish Office of Waterford City & County Council is collaborating with several different groups to provide a range of events and activities to celebrate the Irish language and culture of the Déise and here is a flavour of some of what will be on offer.
Gael-Igbo — an intercultural event will take place in St Patrick’s Centre in Waterford City this Saturday, 4 March at 4.00pm, when Irish speakers and the Igbo Community will have the opportunity to come together to share a taste of their respective cultures. Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome to attend this special event. So, if you would like to use your cúpla focal in a multi-cultural setting, call in to St Patrick’s Centre on Patrick Street on Saturday.
Lón na Gaeilge — Lón na Gaeilge for Council staff and the general public will take place in the Granville Hotel in the City on Wednesday, 8 March. If you are interested in meeting other Irish speakers for a chat in a relaxed and fun atmosphere, please come along. You must register in advance with Séamus at [email protected]
An Cailín Ciúin – the Irish Office, in collaboration with Dún Garbhán le Gaeilge, is organising a special gala screening of the film An Cailín Ciúin in the SGC Cinema, Dungarvan on Thursday, 9th March to celebrate the film’s Oscar nomination and it’s Déise connections.
Bilingual Table Quiz – this year’s Bilingual Table Quiz organised by the Irish Office of Waterford City & County Council will take place in the Cove Bar on the Dunmore Road, Waterford City on Tuesday, 14th March at 8.00pm and is open to the public. We are delighted to be back ‘live’ in person, giving people a chance to use their ‘cúpla focal’ in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and there will be plenty of spot prizes, music and craic on the night. Booley House in the City — the Booley House group from Ballyduff Upper will perform in the Garter Lane Theatre on Saturday, 18 March at 8.00pm. This promises to be a wonderful display of Irish dancing, music, song and storytelling. This is a free event, but tickets must be booked in advance via the Garter Lane website www.garterlane.ie.
The Spoken Word — this Open Mic event will take place on Barronstrand Street on Saturday 18th March from 1.00-4.00p.m. There will be poetry and prose readings in Irish and English from a variety of people. So, join us at this free outdoor event, which is being organised as part of Waterford’s St Patrick’s Day Festival.
WATERFORD LIBRARY SERVICES
Staff from the Libraries throughout city and county have organised a programme of bilingual/Irish events and activities, which will take place in the coming fortnight and all of which are free of charge.
Seanchaí Neil de Búrca will be present in Tramore and Ardkeen Libraries on Tuesday, 21 March, where his unique and vivid storytelling style will captivate children from local schools. In addition, ‘Bingó as Gaeilge’ will take place in Ardkeen and Portlaw Libraries and the weekly Ciorcal Comhrá/Conversation Circle will continue in Tramore Library every Thursday evening. Details of these events can be obtained from your local Library.
Waterford Library Service has an extensive stock of Irish language books, which will be on display in various Libraries around the city and county during Seachtain na Gaeilge, with people encouraged to borrow and read the fabulous range of Irish language books that are available for both adults and children. Details of all events and activities will be shared on the Library Service website www.waterfordlibraries.ie.
