A protest calling for harsher punishments for dog thieves took place in Waterford yesterday.
The demonstration, organised by 'Pet Theft Awareness Waterford' comes following a spate of reported thefts across the country.
According to the Department of Justice 'dognapping' has soared by 50 per cent in the last two years in Ireland.
Pet-owners in Waterford are being reminded to make sure their pets are micro-chipped.
