The General Manager of University Hospital Waterford is encouraging people to contact their GP or go to the Emergency Department if they need treatment.
Grace Rothwell says they are continuing to do emergency and time critical surgeries.
She says there's separate pathways in place in the hospital for Covid 19 patients and those needing other care.
She told WLR NEWS.......
"The emergency department have a number of measures in place, all patients arriving are assessed by a senior medic based on the symptoms presenting,
and a series of questions that a patient presenting would be asked you will either be placed on the covid pathway or the non-covid pathway.
So people should be assured and know that they would receive the care and treatment they need. It would be safe to do that and I would urge people to take
the assurance and don't be afraid."
Grace Rothwell says people should not hesitate in getting treatment if they are not well.
"For anyone, and people will know who they are, if someone is at home feeling very unwell, maybe having chest pain, maybe having a very high temperature,
but in general, people know themselves when they are not well, or people perhaps who are due an appointment, that maybe did not come for a review appointment,
if you are in any way concerned about yourself or anyone in your family the first port of call is your GP and take the advice from there."
Meanwhile no patient or staff member has contracted Covid 19 in the hospital.
There were 71 clusters of outbreaks in hospitals across the country up to now.
However, Grace Rothwell says there has been no transmission of Covid 19 to patients or staff at UHW
She has described the current situation there as unprecedented but that there's been a real team effort as they cope with the cases of coronavirus.
Grace Rothwell says restricted visiting which was introduced before Christmas has helped at UHW
