Waterford is to receive over half a million euro to develop outdoor adventure projects, under the government's Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).
Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys today announced the projects that were successful in funding applications.
The money for Waterford is part of an allocation of over €15 million, being rolled out in conjunction with Failte Ireland, for 84 separate amenities nationally.
What outdoor amenities in Waterford benefit?
The Waterford projects that have been successful under the scheme are:
- The Copper Coast Walking Trail, Bunmahon to Stradbally €50,000
- ·Kilmacthomas River Walk Enhancement Works €69,930
- Waterford Trails and Outdoor Amenities: Visitor and Footfall Counting Project €76,885
- Development of Crough Wood Trailhead, Amenities and Car Park, Mahon Bridge €365,235
How will the money be spent?
It will go towards developing adventure tourism activities, such as hiking, mountaineering, kayaking, swimming and cycling.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, says the investment will help support rural economies and make rural Ireland a destination of choice for adventure tourism.
