Waterford City and County Council have no short-term plans to address issues at Orchardstown Cross.

The area has proven an accident blackspot in recent years due to the large volume of cars turning right into a lane of oncoming traffic.

Senior Roads Engineer Gabriel Hynes says the local authority will look at the potential for a roundabout in the area in the years ahead.

Fianna Fail Councillor John O'Leary believes that issues at Orchardstown Cross are only getting worse.

"We're all desperately trying to solve the situation. The number of people of late getting killed on our roads is increasing on an ongoing basis and I think we have to continue as public representatives to strive and to make our roads as safe as we possibly can for all and sundry. The volume of traffic has increased tenfold and then with the success of Mount Congreve, it is creatingsurplus of cars there as well and of course in mid-summer we have the whole issue of Tramore."

"The amount of people coming from the hinterland traveling to Tramore creates a very high volume of traffic there. I'm hoping that some kind of specific funding can be got under some safety measures there for the Orchardstown Cross, so so that works can be carried out there to make it safe for people."
