The Finance Minister says official figures contradict those put forward by Noel Grealish in relation to remittances sent abroad from Ireland.
Minister Pascal Donohoe has urged the Galway TD to clarify his comments.
Deputy Grealish questioned if some money being sent from Ireland to Nigeria in personal remittances was the proceeds of crime.
He said that "3.4 billion euro transferred to one non-EU country is astronomical."
Minister Donohue says the actual figures are "significantly lower" than those suggested by Deputy Grealish in the Dáil yesterday.
