University Hospital Waterford is one of just two hospitals which hasn't had any patients waiting on trolleys in Emergency Departments in the first six months of the year.
New figures reveal there were 7,800 fewer patients on trolleys in the first half of this year across the country- down 14 per cent on the same period last year.
That's despite more than 62,000 more patients presenting to EDs so far this year.
According to the Irish Independent, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly is expected to tell Cabinet this week that the top performing hospitals were UHW and the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore which didn't have any patients who required admission waiting on a trolley for the full six months.
Meanwhile, trolley numbers at University Hospital Limerick rose by forty per cent up to the end of April, although the level of patients presenting was on par with other hospitals.
