There are no indications Cartamundi is to change its plans to close in Waterford.
That's according to Martin O'Rourke, SIPTU sector organiser, who has been engaging with the company.
Talks are continuing between representatives from SIPTU and Cartamundi following the company's announcement that it is to close its Waterford plant.
After 45 years, the company is due to shut its Waterford operation in August.
Speaking on 'Deise Today', Martin said there's no hope of reversing the decision which was announced last week.
"People have given their lifetime's work to it. Some people may have been there for 30 or 40 years and have never applied for another job.
"We will be looking for the employer to provide training for people to compile CVs. Some people will have no knowledge of the social welfare situation so we will be looking for someone to come in and provide training on that. And finally we will be looking for the ETB to come to provide information on what courses are available."
SIPTU met with representatives from Cartamundi in the hopes of reversing the decision to close the Waterford plant.
Martin O'Rourke says: "We have no hope at this stage that we will be able to do anything to reverse this decision."
