Waterford appears to be an outlier when it comes to the availability of free STI testing.

The service at UHW has been temporarily shut down due to medical staff shortages.

They are advising that Cork, Portlaoise, and Dublin are now the nearest clinics.

The option of being posted an at-home testing kit - introduced during the lockdowns - is also available everywhere other than in Waterford.

Cúan Cusack from Pride of the Déise explains that there are loopholes in the system.

You can get a test posted to a Parcel Motel, or to a friend who lives in another county.

"It seems silly to have to lie about your address to get a test," Cúan said.

They have contacted the HSE in relation to this issue. The HSE said they are not contracted to post tests to Waterford.

GP's and private clinics are 0fferimg STI tests but these options are not available to everyone because of the cost.

"At the end of the day, the more people that get tested, the less STIs that are going to be transmitted," they said.
