A new parking incentive to encourage shoppers to stay longer in Waterford City starts today.
All carparks in the city centre are operating a 'pay for the first hour and get the second hour free' until the end of July.
The local authority, iPairc and the Port of Waterford are all involved.
Claire Hartley is Communications Officer with Waterford Council.
"All city centre parking in Waterford operated by ourselves in the Council and the private operators will operate this incentive. It's designed to encourage an increased footfall in the city centre and for people to come in and spend two hours. It's supported by all on-street and pay and display car parks."
She says initiatives are already in place in Dungarvan.
"For Dungarvan there is currently a first thirty minutes free parking and an hour and a half free parking is already in place in Scanlon's Yard.
