Planning permission has been granted for a new supermarket in Dungarvan by Waterford City and County Council.
A decision was reached yesterday by the local authority's Planning Department concerning the application which was submitted on November 21st, 2023 by Shane Houlihan.
The proposed development would consist of a 1 to 2-storey anchor convenience and comparison retail store at the former Glanbia site on Richard A. Walsh Street.
The proposal also includes plans for a cafe and 165 car parking spaces. It is understood the anchor retail store is set to be Tesco Ireland.
Several submissions and objections against the development were submitted, and the matter may potentially come before An Bord Pleanala for adjudication.
The appeals set out concerns regarding the proposed development, which included failure to provide for a mix of uses on a strategic opportunity site in Dungarvan - which it is claimed would result in a site dominated by a retail store with surface car parking.
It was also argued that the subject proposal would undermine the existing retail provision in Dungarvan Town Centre.
