It follows five fixed penalty charges being issued last weekend, while another driver was caught speeding at 177km/h in Kilmacthomas yesterday.
Dual-carriageway
Waterford Cllr. Ger Barron says speeding on the N25 is a big problem, and he has led calls for the establishment of a dual-carriageway between Waterford and Cork.
Cllr. Barron says while it's great to see so many people travelling through Waterford, the levels of speeding must stop.
"I live quite close to the N25, and I've seen a huge increase in the numbers travelling along the road in the past few months. The upside of it is that now in this county, we have a fantastic tourism offering that wasn't always there in the past. A lot of people are visiting our county. Speeding is never good. My proposal for a dual-carriageway has been generally well received by Waterford Council and I'm hoping we can make ground on it."
The Labour Party Councillor says it's clear that some parts of the N25 are in a better condition than others. When it comes to speeding, the risk always outweighs the reward.
"Some parts of the N25 are in very good condition - other parts, not so good. The speeding on that road has been an issue, I welcome the fact that there's a lot more activity on the road by the Gardai. We have to be realistic with this, speeding causes death and serious injury. There is no particular reason to drive in excess, you only get there a few minutes before you would if you take your time."
Cllr. Barron is encouraging people to slow down and take their time on the roads.
"Part of our remit in the Council is road safety. All of our schemes and all of our roads are build so safety is paramount. I would appeal to people to drive safely and please slow down."
