A successful multi-agency rescue operation took place in the Comeragh Mountains at the weekend.

On Saturday, South Eastern Mountain Rescue received a call just after 3pm from Gardaí to assist a fallen walker with an injury at Coumshingaun Lough.

Team members and vehicles arrived at Kilclooney Woods and began carrying a stretcher and equipment up the hill to the casualty on the ridge.

While making their way up, the Incident Manager at Kilclooney was approached by a group of walkers as one of their group was missing and they were unable to make contact.

The assistance of Rescue 117 was requested on what was a busy day for the service during which it was also tasked to Tramore for an incident.

SEMRA members at the casualty site prepared the casualty and provided hi-line assistance for Rescue 117. In the meantime the missing walker turned up safe and well.

The casualty was brought to Waterford Airport by Rescue 117 and then transferred to UHW by the National Ambulance Service.

SEMRA members walked the rest of the group off the hill, with stand down issued at 7.50pm when everyone was safely down.
