A motorist caught travelling more than 80km/h above the speed limit is one of the stand out findings from An Garda Siochana's August Bank Holiday Weekend Road Policing operation so far.
The operation began at 7am on Thursday morning August 1st and almost 125,317 vehicles have already been monitored for speeding.

An Garda Siochana say it's "positive" that the majority of motorists are travelling within the designated speed limit. However, 440 drivers have been detected speeding and some instances have been described as "especially dangerous".

This includes one motorist detected travelling at 186km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N24 Waterford to Limerick road at Tybroughney near Piltown.

An Garda Síochána says it continues to monitor and conduct checkpoints on Ireland's roads, and is advising people to slow down and drive safely.
